A self-taught musician, Paul was born on Soniat Street in New Orleans and he began performing in 2004. In 2005 he produced his first CD, the highly successful ‘Born in New Orleans’ – a tribute to his birthplace. Paul’s songs convey the special insights into New Orleans known only to a native New Orleanian. As a line in the title song ‘Born in New Orleans’ states: “I couldn’t write this song if I wasn’t born in New Orleans.
Shortly after Katrina, Paul produced his second CD ‘Below the Water Line’, an emotional collection of songs dealing with the upheaval of everyday life in a city devastated by the worst hurricane in its history. In addition to serious, emotional songs relating to Katrina, ‘Below the Water Line’ also contains humorous, thought-provoking songs such as ‘Plastic Surgery’ and ‘Mr. Money Talks’.
Paul’s third CD ‘Suddenly’ showcases his growth as a musician and songwriter. Due for release in the Fall of 2012, ‘Suddenly’ is a departure from his solo piano recording of ‘Born in New Orleans’ and ‘Below the Water Line’. It delivers a more sophisticated, complex production and features his songs amplified and performed by some of New Orleans’ top musicians. ‘Suddenly’ is a presentation of many different musical styles such as Country, Caribbean and Cajun, and it demonstrates Paul’s versatility as a musician and songwriter.
This year marks Paul’s 30th as Director of the New Orleans Botanical Garden. During his three decades as its director, Paul has taken the garden from an obscure, forgotten spot in City Park to one of significant prominence. Development of the New Orleans Botanical Garden has had, and continues to have, a tremendous impact upon the ongoing, positive growth of New Orleans’ entire City Park area.
